Helicopter Ratings
- Private

This certificate allows you to fly helicopters and carry passengers. It also allows you to build up your PIC (pilot in command) time which you will need when applying for a commercial rating. Typically, completion takes 50 or more hours of flight time. The national average is around 65 hours. - Commercial
This certificate is for those who want to become professional helicopter pilots. You start by obtaining your private rating and continuing your training and flight experience to meet the commercial pilot requirements and standards. You must also become a commercial pilot before becoming a flight instructor. We recommend obtaining your instrument rating while working on your commercial rating. These instrument hours count towards your commercial rating. - Instrument
As an instrument-rated pilot, you can fly by looking at the instrument panel and using it as your sensors; this allows you to fly in clouds or other low-visibility situations. Most employers will require that you have this rating. Typically, completion takes 40-50 hours post private. A good rating to get while working towards the commercial requirements. - Flight Instructor
The Flight Instructor rating is for those who want to train others to become pilots. It is also a great way to build up your PIC time. A flight instructor is typical the first job you obtain after becoming a commercial pilot. Following your flight instructor hours, you should build up enough PIC time to apply for other commercial jobs like fire fighting, law enforcement, EMS pilot, tour companies, etc.
